Country Treasures: A Visit with Clara B. Thomas

  • Rocky Mount State Historic Site 200 Hyder Hill Road Piney Flats, TN 37686 United States (map)

Come visit with local artist Clara B. Thomas, who still lives on the Revolutionary War land-grant farm she paints.

Clara lives and works at Magna Vista Farm near Bristol, a farm her family has worked for eight generations. The barns, pastures, horses, chickens, old roads, and changing seasons around her have given her a lifetime of subjects to paint. “My art developed from scenes that are part of my everyday life,” Clara says.

At 1 PM, Clara will share how she began painting, how the farm continues to shape her work, and the stories behind the paintings in Country Treasures. At 1:30, she will remain in the gallery for a free meet-the-artist. Come see the paintings, ask Clara questions, and visit with the artist who knows these places firsthand.

Country Treasures opens at Rocky Mount on Saturday, August 29, and remains on view through September 30. The artist talk, meet-the-artist, and exhibition are free and open to the public.

Historic-site tours will be offered at 11 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3 PM. The 1:30 tour begins at the house while Clara remains in the gallery. Tours are regular admission. Donations are welcome.
